My husband works nights so in order for him to sleep during the day we had to get our room as dark as we could, however light still sneaks in here and there around the windows and under the door.  He turned to wearing a bulky, semi-rigid eye mask to help shield out the light.  I tried it on once and found it to be completely uncomfortable.  Recently my oldest daughter took an interest in wearing a sleep mask and would borrow her dad’s on the nights he worked and when it was available for nap time.  She asked me if she could have her own, but not one that hurt her nose like daddy’s does.  So challenge accepted, I needed to find an effective, softer sleep mask.  Luckily I was given the opportunity to purchase the Silk Sleep Mask at a discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.  Now that my daughter was aware that another sleep mask would soon be arriving, she was super excited.  I continually reminded her that I would need to wear for a few days so that I could see how it worked.  She claimed she understood, but the words “a few days” have little meaning to a 5-year-old, which quickly became apparent when the mask arrived.  Conveniently the mask arrived in the mail before nap time so she was able to wear it for her nap… and then proceeded to wear it much like a headband for the rest of evening.  No big deal until… bedtime…  She did not understand why she had to give up her mask.  After much negotiation mommy prevailed and my sad little lady went to bed maskless.  So wow, long-winded explanation as to why I got this mask, now on to the mask itself.

The mask is great quality.  It is very soft and made of 100% pure silk, but don’t be deceived by the material.  Normally when you think of silk you tend to think transparent, not the case with this mask.  The mask contains multiple layers of fabric allowing no light to pass through.  It’s large in size so it covers all of the areas that it needs to, not letting light in around the edges.  There is an adjustable strap allowing a comfortable fit for a child (in my daughter’s case) up to an adult male.  I like to think of it as a lightweight, solid black, silk blanket for my eyes.  I could barely feel it there.  The first night that I wore it I slept in two hours longer than I normal do.  I woke up completely unaware how late into the morning it was.  I couldn’t see the cracks of light sneaking in around the windows.  I can honestly say that before this I never really thought about wearing a sleep mask at night because it’s dark out, but after using it I am wishing I would have thought about it sooner!  Problem now is that I promised this one to my daughter.  Looks like I will be purchasing another!

Here is what Zotoon has to say about their product:

The modern world is full of distractions. Honking car horns, ringing smart phones, and barking dogs are out to ensure you never have a restful sleep again. Whether you’re looking to catch a few Z’s on a noisy plane trip or simply block out a few chirping crickets outside your bedroom window, a light-cancelling blindfold and set of soft, foam earplugs are essential to achieve the full restfulness. Block out life’s everyday (and every night) distractions with a high-quality, soft, and comfortable sleep mask.

Happy sleeping!

Heather
